I had to help my mate fit a SOAR view antenna the other day and it got me thinking.

When ireland changed all the channels to digital about 10 years ago now what made them go DVB-T instead DVB-S(sat). Literally every house in Ireland has sat dishes so it would of been easier for everyone to transition and I assume it would of been a lot cheaper for the Irish org over the move to digital as they would not have to put relays everywhere. Also in Ireland we have a lot of remote areas that aren't covered by DVB-T and in those area as far as I know they use SOAR sat which uses sat dishes but I'm not sure the tech involved in that.

So my question here is why would Ireland not go with sat for local channels?
