Hi all,
ok so I got redirected here while browsing the cable section.
In the past I've had a dreambox 500c - good box (tho terribly quiet)...but obviously thats all gone now with Nagra 3.
To be honest, I don't really watch much tv. I do like series and episodes, and I love my movies etc, but I tend to just download them as and when (mkvs and suchlike) for playing in my Popcorn player.
The kids however, used to always have channels such as Disney Cinemagic, Playhouse Disney, Nickelodeon etc, and the wife....well she'd have whatever crap on normally that would play on freeview.
I'm not a sports fan, though would be nice to catch some american sports once in a while like american football and basketball.....suppose nice to have too for when friends call over.
HD would of course be the preferred option...partially because it makes life easier wiring it up to my surround receiver with passthrough rather than feeding another wire to the tv mounted on the wall
I am of course trying to search for this information too though its hard to seperate old out of date info from more up to date info...as I've never dabbled in sky/dvb-s related stuff at all
Soooooo....what would be best for me? Motorised or fixed? (not interested in receiving foreign channels nor porn - hdd is already full lol)
PVR facility would of course also be a bonus....I was thinking perhaps of this Black Panther box...which is HD, not prone to glitch problems, and though it has no EPG (I think) I don't mind about that.
Am I right in thinking then that the only way I'd be able to unscramble these channels (mostly the premium kids channels, and discovery HD and suchlike), would be to either a) buy a legit subscription, or b) pay a smaller fee to some cardsharing group somewhere/somehow? Or is there a way to set up so get them all free? Or indeed an alternate satellite that provides those channels unscrambled?
I wouldn't be confident at putting a dish up on the wall outside, but could happily pay someone to do that and everything associated with it.
Hope you guys can point me in the right direction
cheers
