Virgin doubles XL broadband speed in May

Virgin Media will double the downstream speed of its top tier 'XL' cable broadband service to 20Mbps in May.

Upstream speeds will also be increased to 768kbps. However, the price of the service will also increase from £35 to £37 per month.

"We want to make entertainment and communications the simple and exciting world it should be, but our technology also means we can offer an ultra-fast broadband service that our competitors can't match," said Ernie Cormier, chief commercial officer. "For internet savvy customers who want the best broadband money can buy, our XL service is perfect for speedy downloading and uploading - whether it's music, videos, podcasts or blogs."

Virgin said that all its broadband services "will continue to offer unlimited downloads

looking good :) anyone got the config yet Lol
Yes !

Wont do you much good though as its only in the test areas. All they have done is modify the standard 10 meg config so that it gives 20Meg down and 768k up. The actual name used is still the same as the original 10Meg config.

The speed would be maintained if there was not a proliferation of cloned modems running 10 meg configs downloading Xbox 360 games and movies from newsgroups 24/7.

There is a finite amount of bandwidth available which is why its bad crack to be running several cloned modems at a time, in the long run everyone suffers.

Out of curiosity when the 10MB gets doubled to 20MB what is happening with the current 1 + 2MB accounts?

The last thing I heard was that they was all getting bumped up to 10MB but that was not from a reliable source.
