Hi Guys

I suppose this is as good a room as any to post this one.

I've just bought a camcorder which I'm able to connect to my PC via a USB connection (havent got the leads yet but will be getting them in the next couple of days).

What I want to do is load my holiday video onto my PC by connecting the cam via the USB connection, then edit the video to cut out all the crap I dont want on it and then re-record it onto either a VHS tape (via ** out on graphics card) or onto a VCD so that I can view it on a DVD player.

I'm completely new to all of this and dont even know if what I want to do is possible, but if it is I would be grateful if anyone could give me some advice on what is the best software to use, and how to go about doing what I want to do. Plain English please guys, as I say this is all very new to me.

Thanks in advance.

Cosmoss,
Is your Camcorder Digital or analogue, I use Pinnacle DV software for my Digital camcorder, it is extreemly easy to use and gives professional results it comes with a plugin board and a firewire connecting lead and is upgradeable so you can output to dvd or vcd. The wipes, fades and transitions are so professional.
There is also an analogue version which connects via a S/vhs connection. you can get loads of information at www.pinnaclesys.com
I tried using Adobe Premiere but found it too complicated.
Best of luck,
vat19

Thanks m8 I'll check that site out, it's an analogue camcorder (I think - Hi8 ?? ), I've been searching around on winmx for a download of Adobe Premiere but I think I'll give it a miss now.

Hi m8 you have just asked at the right time if you have a dv camcorder as pinnicle have 2 new bits of software out the first is pinnicle studio 7 and its all you need to download, edit, and add video effects like titles and cross fading effects between scenes.
the other is a idiot proof version which is just as powerfull and has a cd write facity and thats called pinnicle express as a bonus they both have been designed to work on standard firewire cards as the earlier versions didnt.
myself i use studio 7 and then nero 5.5 to write my cds but uptil now the pinnicle software wouldnt convert to a mpeg format so vcd's were out of the question but its all sorted now and much more user friendly....hope this was some help ...baz
pc pentium 3 1000 mhz 250meg ram 45 gig hdd
3 port pci fire wire card +lead
sony digital 8 trv-320 e
and the above software
