Just put Win7 on 2 identical laptops. One recognises all USB sticks and external hard drives however the other doesn't respond at all.

Is there anything I can do?

thanks

Have you tried all usb ports and also if you check the device manager of both laptops is all the hardware list the same and not have any exclamation marks next to any of them indicating a problem.

Tried all usb ports but they are not listed in device manager.

can you check the Bios, you normally get into it by pressing the del key, however it could be F1 or F2 depending on your laptop. You need to check that the usb ports have not been disabled in the bios. Check and let me know. If they are abled they may be faulty. Try to reinstall again or with another operating system and also check in safe mode to see if they work.

Thanks

All ports worked perfectly until I re-formatted from XP to Win7.

I had the same problem. Check if the latest USB drivers are installed and the USB ports are activated under Device Manager. Try uninstalling and reinstalling them. It should work!
