usb crackling

my pc has been fine up until now, but recently for the past week or so, everytime i try to plug something into one of the usb ports, i hear some electric buzzing/crackling noise, and then the computer restarts. am i creating some kinda short circuit? this hasn't happened on every occasion, but does happen quite often, im even a little scared of using the usb ports now for fear of electic shock :S

hi, does this happen when you use any port. if its only the ones at the front then, check the cable that comes from them and then connects onto the motherboard. but first check the usb sockets in case there is something stuck in there or if one ot the pins is bent and causing a short.

actually i opened up the case and cleaned up some of the insides. i noticed the plug cable insert to the power supply unit was kinda loose. i only have the usb ports at the back, so i think each time i used them i would nudge the power cable causing it to momentarily cut power and restart the comp.
