US ps2 info

Hi guys,
lad next door to me has bought a US version ps2 and he having problems with games, he has been looking for an adaptor or something which he said converts it but just a thought here, would he be able to chip it so it will be able to play all disc's and if so has any one any idea to which one would good to use.

I do know much at all about ps2's so could not really tell him what would be best apart from why he bought that version, but any info guys would help out alot.

if its a v12 then use somthing like a h20
anything else we normally use duo3 golds or infinitys
