UK SIM card - no expiring credit + cheap texts/calls

I need a SIM card for a spare phone - to act as an emergency phone for one of my kids.

Any recommendations?

Main priority is I don't have to top it up much so always in service and the credits don't expire. Ideally cheap texts/calls, but not as important.

I got a giffgaff sim about 9 months ago, put £20 on and its still active.

Assume spare phone is unlocked ?

If not then will have to use whoever it is locked to or get it unlocked
