UHF

Let me reiterate,

There is NO way what so ever that changing the UHF channel number in Menu 7 – 1 will help reduce ECM’s.
&
There is NO way what so ever that changing the UHF channel number in Menu 7 – 1 will improve the signal to your STB or stop the Red Square problem.

The channels that are broadcast by I*V dig are spread over 6 multiplexes each 1 of these carries a group of channels, & each multiplex has it’s own UHF frequency. Depending on where you live in the country governs which transmitter you can receive from and what frequencies you will receive the muliplexes on.

The signal strength function (Menu 7 – 1 ) is only a signal meter (not a very accurate one at that), all STB’s seem to have this factory set to 21, changing this setting to a different frequency (1 of the 6 ) that you receive on will show the signal that you are receiving. You are receiving this signal all the time not just when you put in the # that makes the green bar appear.

I hope this has cleared up the confusion over this issue.

For a list of the transmitters & multiplex frequencies look >> HERE <<

I'm with Tel Boy on this everybody, where I'm from the multiplexers used are 41, 44, 47, 51, 55, and 65 (i think - off the top of my head). All i've ever used these for is positioning my arial. By this I mean you change the UHF number in your box to the multiplexers being used in your area. then you reposition your arial so that you get a green signal on all your multiplexers. This just ensures you get all the channels available in your area.

is it not the case that mr_anfield started this thread just to get a listing, a sort of quick reference, so that you can look up ur area ( without getting all technical) to see what the best frequency is for ur area? e.g.:-
Glasgow ch 51.
London ch ??.
Manchester ch ??.
etc......
i know from experience, sitting by the stb, going from ch21 to ch69 to see what the was giving the best reading in 7-1, is a boring task!!!!
all this would do is to let u know (if ur area is listed) what the best channel is to tune ur box to without wasting an hour of ur life , when u could be on the forum!!!!!

Well I'm glad to see Tel Boy agrees with me, other people just slated me. As he says (and I said earlier) menu 7-1 is a signal meter, changing the UHF value here just displays what you are receiving, doesn't stop it clashing with videos etc and doesn't affect picture quality or anything else. The only setting that does make a difference is the one in the ** settings page where you can change the UHF Output channel and this will improve things greatly if it clashes with an analogue channel (or your video etc.)

oh turned to insults have we, pass a comment or an opinion, which is all it is, and some person takes offense, pity and sad.

I'm sorry if you take offence Wheeler777, I was just expressing my opinion, as I think I understand the way I*******l boxes work and thought it may help others to understand. It appears only one other person agrees with me, so maybe I am wrong and you are right

No offence or personal remark was intended, I am not that sort of person. This forum is far too useful to stoop to that.

I know a friend of mine in Bradford who couldn't get the I** Spor*Selec* on Sunday changed the UHF to 40 as advised earlier and the channel came through perfectly ?!?! Explanations anyone, this couldn't just be a fluke ?!?!?!

I see the moderators are staying out of this one (Mickie, Gazer, damage34, Highlander, c0sm0ss, Goldberg, johnny5) please shed some light on this topic, eh !?! B4 this turns any uglier.

I can't understand it but when I checked my signal strength the box definately changed channels quicker than it did before.

Dont ask me why.

I agree with skcl. 7,1 is just a meter it shows the strength of signal on the number you select. Thats all...........

didnt mean you skcl and sorry if you thought i did, you were certainly not offensive, i would have thought what i meant was obvious to all, the person i meant was tel boy, no one else, i appologise again if anyone else thought otherwise.

Will someone explain how i can put a photo of the raw signals up on the post so that we can put this to bed please, cause i want to go to bed.
Keep the boards alive boys

the green gain bar shown is only a display for info to give you an idea as to how strong a signal you are recieving on a particular channel.
changing this does not adjust signal quality as this can only be done by your aerial or by a booster.

cpwade, sorry m8 but I'll leave this topic to you guys to sort out, not something I'm too well up on... but I'm enjoying seeing this thread roll on, I'm sure you'll get the answer eventually.

I dunno now. Just changed to a channel i know gives bad signal strengh and I can still get all my channels. Maybe I am wrong.
