THE TV licence fee is going up £4 to £116 a year.
The above inflation rise, to be announced by Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell this week, will give the BBC an extra £100million.
But the move was condemned by the Tories, who have accused the Corporation of dumbing down.
Shadow Culture Secretary John Whittingdale said: "Why does the BBC need an extra £100million when the commercial channels are having to cope with a severe drop in income?"
