Not sure where to put this ::: Just a heads up
Toyota GB has informed the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) of the precise list of cars directly affected by the accelerator pedal safety recall.
A total of 180,865 vehicles are included, the owners of which Toyota and the DVLA will contact directly to arrange a repair.
The recalled models are from seven of Toyota's line-ups:
- iQ
- Aygo
- Yaris
- Auris
- Corolla
- Avensis
- Verso
However, it has been confirmed that Aygos fitted with a manual gearbox are not affected. Neither is the RAV4 SUV, the Prius or any other Toyota or Lexus model.
Toyota has confirmed that its engineers have already developed a robust solution to the sticking accelerator pedal issue. Parts to effect the repair will arrive in the UK next week, with the first fixes due to take place on February 10.
All modifications will be carried out by Toyota technicians at approved service centres. It is estimated that each car will take just 30 minutes to fix.
"The safety of our customers is our top priority. We appreciate their concerns and are doing everything we can to deliver a speedy and thorough solution to the issue with the minimum inconvenience," said Miguel Fonseca, Managing Director of Toyota GB.
Toyota Customer Relations can be contacted in the UK on 0800 1388 744, while the company has also set up a website to deal with the influx of inquiries: Accelerator Pedal Recall.

Its big news here in the US. The Camry in particular is the best selling car. Toyota's are very popular here. It really is going to effect their sales as people are returning their cars for quick fixes or refunds. There is also talk of lawsuits happening.

A fix has been found but serious damage already done.

...but serious damage already done.

I was listening to a financial expert on TalkSport this morning, who was saying it was the biggest PR disaster he could recall. Toyota had made a complete pig's ear of handling it.

ignition off hand brake pulled on
not saying it would have stopped it but it would have prob helped

what i can't understand is why is did not put in neutral or even better still turn off the

ignition and leave in gear........

In the USA, so 99.9% chance of being an automatic. They don't have much concept over there of anything other than steering wheel and 'stop' and 'go' pedals. Even the finer points of how to use an automatic gearbox seems to be beyond most of them. :grayno:

drive the auto like a manual
yes would of worked
i saw a car show on tv yanks they fitted a manual box to a car
now this fella has build hundreds of cars he had to bring in a specialist to fit the gearbox WTF!

I would still buy a toyota over most other manufacturers.

At least they recalled the vehicles and will fix it, unlke others who wont even acknowledge that there is something wrong, ie, clio bonnet and same manufacturer dash electrics.

Not quite! This fault has been known about for months. It's only the threat of major class action lawsuits in the USA that has pushed Toyota into acknowledging the fault and doing something about it.

I am driving here in the USA. I passed my practical test earlier this week. Very easy to do, just change lanes, know the controls in the car, reverse the car, park the car and thats about it. The theory is quite easy also.

For everyone I have seen drive here or spoke about driving, no one uses park or neutral. All they know is D to drive and R for reverse. Occasionally L for uphill.
I think because of the simplicity, most people do not know how to handle situations.

There are enough people that just pull out in front of you, lots of people dont signal when they turn left or right so you know way of knowing if they are gonna turn. Saying that there are enough people who drive with the indicator on. They are turning right but signal quite early on.

You have to drive very defensively here.

Have you seen how they plan to fix the accelerator problem, I saw some Toyota guy explaining it in a video on the BBC news site. It involves shoving a piece of steel under the spring to make it stiffer and increasing the clearence of the sticking part. I love his last words to the reporter "hopefully that will fix the problem".

Sounds like a back street garage bodge job to me.

Its on skynews that the pug 107 is also affected...

Peugeot 107, Citroen C1, and Toyota Aygo are all just badged versions of the same car from the same factory in The Czech Republic.
