Britain's second-largest cable operator, Telewest Broadband, today unveiled a "scorcher of a deal" designed to boost take-up of its telephony and digital TV products.

Consumers who sign up to Talk Unlimited or Talk Evenings and Weekends during July and August will receive Telewest's digital TV starter pack free for one year. In addition, consumers who sign-up online via the cable operator's website during July will receive free installation.

Telewest's managing director, Gavin Patterson, said: "We've gone all out to give consumers a scorcher of a deal that our rivals simply cannot match.

"We've uniquely brought together the best of both worlds, digital TV entertainment and excellent value unlimited phone packages. Why? Because with cable we can."

The war with BT shows, as Patterson's closing comment indicates, no sign of abating any time soon; in addition to this new offer, Telewest is promising to undercut BT Together option 3 - whereby the first hour of any UK call made at any time of the day is free, for £28.50 a month - by £2.50 per month

hiya all
sounds a great deal however you need to check out if telewest cable is available in your area. I recently moved to an area which isnt serviced by them and they have no plans to install new connections for the next two years in my locality.

b#*@#"~* :)
