Celtic extended their lead at the top of the Scottish Premier League after a narrow home win, while Hibernian slipped closer to the relegation zone.

Anthony Stokes scored the only goal of the game as Celtic edged a 1-0 win over Aberdeen, creating a five point gap between themselves and title rivals Rangers.

Rangers, who hold two games in hand over the Bhoys, had lost at Hearts earlier in the day, where Ryan Stevenson's late strike earned a 1-0 win for the Jambos.

It was honours even in a 1-1 draw at the Caledonian Stadium, where Dani Sanchez's opener for Inverness CT was cancelled out by Mickael Antoine-Curier's penalty for Hamilton on the stroke of half-time.

Elsewhere, Garry Kenneth earned Dundee United a last-gasp draw at Kilmarnock, where there were three red cards in a fiery 1-1 draw.

Killie's Alexei Eremenko was the first to go, receiving a straight red for violent conduct on 54 minutes, but Scott Robertson evened things up with a second yellow just six minutes later.

United, who had the lead through a first-half Conor Sammon strike, were then reduced to nine men on 65 minutes as Jon Daly became their second player to be dismissed for a second bookable offence.

Meanwhile, Hibernian's turbulent season continues and they now hover just three points above basement club Hamilton following a 2-0 defeat at Motherwell.

The hosts had the game wrapped up early on, with two goals in the space of four minutes from Jamie Murphy (20) and Steven Saunders (24) sealing a comfortable win for Well.

And between the battle of the saints at McDiarmid Park, St Johnstone and St Mirren were unable to provide much of a spectacle with a drab 0-0 draw.
