Some Stupid Questions.

I know some of my questions may seem stupid but I haven't bothered much with the scene since Eurovox and most questions are really more like confirmation.
1) Boxes connect to Cable and to Computer ?
2) Cable connection required but does it have to include a TV package ?
3) Based on CS system so it does require CS subscription ?
4) Do you find it worthwhile or is it a case of enjoy trying ?
5) I expect different answers to this but which outfits preferred ?

1. connects to cable and router is easier
2 no any connected incoming cable will do
3. the kv is sub free but there are other types of cable boxes
4. no vermin in my area
5. if I was buyin new equipment I would be going hd
