Irish broadcaster Setanta has pushed back plans to launch a free-to-view sports channel, according to this week's Broadcast.

The company had planned to launch the station last month on Freeview, Sky and cable, with a lineup including Uefa Cup football and Scottish Premier League football, as well as coverage from Irish and American sports.

Setanta's joint CEO Leonard Ryan explained the reason for the delay. "We felt that unless we got premium content, the channel would not have attracted enough revenue," Ryan told the magazine. "Until [a premium content partner] is on board we're not going to take the car out of the garage."

He added that Setanta was still in discussions with two potential broadcast partners and remained confident that a deal could eventually be reached
