I'm a member of a number of buy/sell sites, and I see certain people requesting to buy DRX890 and equivalent Sky boxes?

What are they doing with them, and why these specific boxes?

I have no interest buying them myself I'm just interested to know what they are doing with them?

Anyone know?

Pull HDDs out of them is one reason. As they are PVR HDDs, they don't have error checking, fine for saving media.

yip apart from the drives cant see any other use for the crap

maybe doing cheap service calls as sky take a few quid for replacement boxes and call outs

As you say it's strange it's those specific boxes they're after- there are plenty of other ex-Sly HD boxes around with SATA drives.:err: Why not advertise one yourself & ask when people phone for it?

Maybe Sky are buying them on the cheap to replace all the SD boxes and put a final nail in CS. lol

I would say the main reason is that the DRX-890 still includes the RF/RF2 output which is needed to run the Magic Eye extensions. Where as the newer Wi-Fi equipped receivers negate this and you then need to spend around £30 on a I/O adaptor just for magic eye use
