Once we've got the data safe/ruled out the drive, we can look at the laptop.Ill give it a go in my other machine now. Thing is I really need it to work with the laptop.
The USB 3.0 standard does not specifiy a maximum cable length. However, according to the wiki article, the use of AWG 26 wiring as standard limits cable length to approx 3m. Even taking into account the use of a fly lead to a front panel USB 3.0 port, I can't imagine you'd be looking at more than 2m total in most situations.I have 2 portable seagate drives 2tb each usb3 when put into usb3 computer will not reconise them ,the computer firm i got computer from said that it could be because the usb 3 cable are to long.
Plug them in after boot, and see if they get picked up. My 2nd gen iPod Nano used to cause an old machine to freeze if it was plugged in on boot up.Have just tried these drives on my other windows7 computer and just the same freezes the boot up to windows so i think must be the drives cant find anything on seagate site.ps usb 2
There could be a few things going wrong here... Sounds to me like the HD is getting power, one of the reasons it might not be showing up is because it's not formatted properly. The first thing I would check is if it works in any other computers.
