Right i put the big boys toys on here, as i think it could be a big forum for all us boys out there
A m8 of mine will be on the ** soon 18th march in the new Ultimate robots thats coming out(a bit like robot wars)
So anyway i get this real robots every couple of weeks thats out at the moment, and build it up bit my bit

So what i want to know, is there any other big boys doing the same, and have we got any members doing the big robot wars stuff on here like my m8,
or any other sort of robots.

Regards Gazer.

Hi Gazer

I'v Built two robots like the ones in the Robot Wars series, I was a member of robot wars, but my membership has run out now.

I'm also building the Real Robot from the mag, i'm looking at ways to custom it even before its finished. have you seen the hand controler yet? it looks quite flashy.

anyway i think this robot section could be a good thing.

I'm also looking for curcuit board plans for a mini reciever for a micro bot. the bot will be aboout 2.5 inchs long by 1 inch wide.

anyway i hope the robot section takes off and gets alot on interst as building robots is a great hobby to get into.

cheers

Hmmmm it look like it's just me and you Davech.

Yes i have seen the remote for this cybot looks good but it's going to cost us to build it

Tell me how did you get on in the robot wars series m8
Where you one of the top ones on there, or one of the ones who got knocked out near the start
And have you got any advice for my m8, beside getting knocked out of it early

There must be more of us, than davech & me trying to build some sort of robot out there come on where's all the big boys gone.

Hi Gazer

I only put up one for the series. it passed the test ok, but Didn't last long enough to be televised Lol, Bloody Bearings fell apart, so lost all drive, so without any spares that was the end before even getting any futher. .

But I Will Be Trying Again....

Advice for Your m8:
Build Strong, Carry Spares of everything he will need them.
If your m8 thinks his robot is strong, tell him to make it even stronger because beleave me when 2 robots are going head to head they take one hell of a battering. Lmfao.

Also protect all servos, recievers and electrics from shock as this will dislodg his connections.
(i always fit servos on rubber mounts then cover them over with a protected box. and remeber to fit a Kill Switch because they wont pass it if it don't have one.

Also go for the heavy Weight class as they get televised more then the light Weights.

About Real Robots:

I think in total there are 40 Issues.

I've started to get the parts from the Real robots site as it is working out cheaper.

http://www.realrobots.com/

Anyway Guys / Gals like Gazer said there must be more of us roboteers out there.

I built a robot once, the brain was a zx81 and actually got it to negotiate a maze...

I didnt bother with the magazine build for a robot it looked too cheesy, I did however collect the Home Computer club magazine about18 years ago and boy they are outdated and worthless now ..

I have been thinking about dabbling in a bot and getting my fitters in work to do all the mechanics.. if we have hydraulic actuators in work that can bend and shape heavy gauge steel image what they could do to a bot in battle ...

Im assuming there is a max specification for the design of a bot otherwise ill just remote control a jcb lol.
I will follow this topic with interest and I hope it will take off...

Hi TAFF

hydraulic actuators are good but you must watch out for the weight limits and you are limited by the PSI allowed. this only applies if your going to enter in compertitions. Lol

I would of used a Dumper from a local building site if there was no weight or size restrictions. Lol.

If anybody is thinking of building a robot for competing then here are some Robot Wars rules and regulations: (maybe abit outdated now, so check at the robot wars site for updates if any)
Weight Categories:

5 to 25 lbs (up to 11.4 kg) Featherweight Class

25 to 50 lbs (11.4 kg to 22.7 kg) Lightweight Class

50 to 100 lbs (22.7 kg to 45.4 kg) Middleweight Class

100 to 175 lbs (45.4 kg to 79.4 kg) Heavyweight Class

Safty Restrictions:

All explosives, corrosives, flames and pyrotenchnics are prohibited.

Untethered projectiles are prohibited

All lasers above 1mw-class 2 are prohibited.

Compressed gas limited to 1000 psi

Hydrolic fluid is limited to 3000 psi

More Restrictions:

Radio jamming, electronic weapondry such as: stun guns, telsa coils, soldering irons), Liquid weponry (water, oil, glue). Gas based weponry: (Expandable foams, neons) Are Not Allowed At All.

And no flying robots. LMFAO and spit in my tea. lol
Power:

Fuel or electric can be used: If using fuel there is a limit of 8oz or 6 minutes worth of running time. and all Fuel tanks must be protected against a posible hit by an Axe etc.
Hope this helps anyone that maybe thinking of building a robot for battling with.

if anyone needs any help or advise i am always willing to help if i can. Please note i'm not an expert or anything just somone interested with building things Lol.

anyway it's good to be mad, it keep me sane.
