as i got parents working as lecturers / teachers they told me the real reason behind the tuition fee rises

each college / university has a set budget each year with is funded by the government and tuition fees

most college / universities are still left with massive budget deficits as a result of waste such as travel costs, long sickness, overpaid department heads

examples are lecturers making monthly trips to foreign universities / colleges to ensure their courses are up to scratch

department heads on 90k a year who do little other than attend meetings

IT equipment being thrown away and replaced as if it costs nothing

of each college / university budget 40% of it is funded by the government - the rest is tuition fees and & foregn students

the government has basically said enough is enough we are not giving you 40% of your budget any more - we are sick of the waste and you need to sort out the problems however we dont want to leave you in the shit so we will increase the cap on tuition fees and you are allowed to charge students more to account for your budgets

another unsustainable initiative by the previous government that has been knocked on the head to stop this country going further into debt

maybe these students should look more closely at how their colleges / universities are run concerning how much money they waste of nothing

should ask why they have department heads with PHD's doing nothing every day earning silly money and why lecturers have been off sick with stress for years at a time

That is more likely to be the reason than the government being solely to blame, but it is despicable to think that the students have to bear the blunt of badly run finances at colleges and universities.
There are several other companies as well as educational sites that appear to waste excessive amounts of money on improvements in technology and meetings etc.
Surely if this equipment that is not suitable for colleges and universities with a quick check over could be recycled into the lower education sites of schools and academies to reduce there spending and the monies transferred between all education groups, greater accounting of spending on trips and meeting which could be done vie conference call, video links or just held in the colleges or universities if local members involved instead of hotel conference rooms.

college / universities have foreign students but it does not mean they are physically attending the classes

they sell their courses abroad and sometimes only 2 or 3 students are paying for the course - they then send out lecturers / department heads to check on standards and verify the content
