Nintendo unveiled the first details for amiibo, the figurine project formerly known as codename NFC, during its E3 Digital Event stream.
Smash Bros. for Wii U, which is scheduled to release Holiday 2014, will be the first game to support amiibo. Each figurines will retain individual level data and beefed up stats for customized Smash characters -- this will include support for custom move sets. Nintendo's amiibo will use the near-field communication sensor of the Wii U GamePad as the means to exchange information to and from the figurine.
Nintendo has said that multiple games will support amiibo, including the recently released Mario Kart 8.
