Newsgroups help pls.

hi guys im new to this newsgroups scene and would like to know where to start and what software i will need. been using torrents all this time but am i right in believing that newsgroups are much faster in downloading stuff thanks for ur help guys. oh yeh and i have searched around the forum but cant find like a step by step guide or a tut. cheers.
