Newbie to dreambox and need advice.

I am new to all this dreambox and its not even mine as I am cable but a m8 of mine just got a 500s and doesnt even have a PC so he cant do anything with it and has ask me to have a look at it for him but because I know little about them I am asking your advice. I have used the search button and been reading up all day but the more I read the more I am confused.

Set up...I have no satelite so I was hoping to put an image on and download the cams and do anything else I need to before giving it back to him to scan for channels.

He has a static dish and a basic Sky package so I don't know what he can expect t recieve.

I have got as far as getting gemini image on and the cams installed, I used mgcam and Camd.

So after all that long winded junk can anyone answer a few questions for me.

Are those cams o.k or should I download different ones.
Do I need to install the softcam in the stickies aswel.
Do I have to ftp keys over to the box. (if so what keys)
What is best program to ftp files across, would flashfxp work (or is there one for dreambox)
Do I also have to alter the config files like I saw in other threads like below.

# key update (sum 01 or 02 with 04)
# 01 update only new keys, default setting
# 02 update all keys (used for valid PMK checking)
# 04 enable TPS au

You won't get anything else except what sky offer you. The dish will have to be moved to point to one of the other satellites.

mgcamd is the cam you want to use.

Do I need to install the softcam in the stickies aswel.

The softcam file is the file that stores the keys. This needs to be updated when the keys change. On some packages, it's twice daily and on others it's whenever they decide to change them.

Do I have to ftp keys over to the box. (if so what keys)

The keys are stored in the SoftCam.key file and need to be ftp'd to the box when you want to view.

What is best program to ftp files across, would flashfxp work (or is there one for dreambox)

FlashFXP will do. Any ftp program will do.

Do I also have to alter the config files like I saw in other threads like below.

The mg_cfg file needs to be altered to {04} so that TPS autoupdates. Go to France 4 to auto update.

He will definitely have to move the dish then.

The sky satellite is 28.2e. Most of the footy is on 19.2e and most of the porn is on 13e lol. Not an easy solution I'm affraid. Well the porn isn't hacked so he won't be able to get the stuff on 13e but there is a few channels on 19.2e so it would be fine if he moved it to that satellite.

But then he wouldn't get anything on his sky subscription. He really needs a motorised dish or a dish with a monoblock and multiple LNBs.

Cheers again, I will tell him all that, he may go for the motorised one. Too complex for me, thank goodness for cable. Must say I liked the look of the dinky wee dreambox, may consider a cable if my dbox ever gives up.

For 500s

19 & 13 m8 best for footy, 28.2 for sly sub.

ftp and basic control use DCC (DREAMBOX CONTROL CENTRE).

Use CCcam with gemini 3.4 image, very stable.
