net problems

my sub internet was working fine until 3 days ago now it works alright parttime the rest of the time it works for a minute then no net message comes on screen network cable unplugged modem flashes loads of lights comes back on then off again.i was thinking someone is using my mac in my ubr so when they try to connect we both turn off really annoying shall i just phone ntl and tell them my net is not working. would they be able to send a signal down the line and change my mac or would they need to change my modem

If it is the situation you described where someone is using your MAC on the same UBR, I'd assume that person will soon change the MAC to something else due to the disconnections and you'll be home free.

And AFAIK they would change your modem as the MAC address is supposed to be unique and assigned by the manufacturer (as a hardware ID).
