Motherwell have confirmed that they will play their Europa League qualifying ties at Airdrie's Excelsior Stadium next season.

Well's own Fir Park pitch is currently undergoing extensive remedial work.

So Airdrie's ground will play host to their neighbour's first-round tie - and the second round if they progress.

Motherwell, who qualified via their Fair Play record, will find out their first-round opponents when the draw is made on 22 June in Geneva.

The first leg of the first qualifying round is 2 July, with the return tie a week later.

Motherwell will hope to have a new manager in place by then, Mark McGhee having left on Friday to take over at Scottish Premier League rivals Aberdeen.

They are replacing the Fir Park surface - and repairing the under-soil heating system - after its condition was heavily criticised this season.

Excelsior Stadium, the home of Second Division club Airdrie United, has a 10,170 all-seated arena.

It is approved by European football's governing body and played host to Queen of the South's Uefa Cup tie against the Danish side Nordsjaelland in August.

Motherwell's first match at Fir Park after the work is remedial work is complete will be a pre-season friendly against Wigan Athletic on 8 August.

That will be the last warm-up game before the start of the 2009/10 Scottish Premier League season.
