Hi Guys,

I just swapped a sata dvd player for a sata dvd rw on a Hp pc.

Now on boot up I get a beep and" 2211-Memory not configured correctly for proper MEBx execution. Make sure there is a memory module in the black DIMM socket. "

Dimm 1 never had any memory before . Putting memory in Dimm 1 causes Fan to go balistic so I have removed.

I can start by pressing "F1 to boot" but can anyone shed any light why the change has occured in simple terms please.

Cheers

You don't say what model and OS? Anyway, MBEx is BIOS extension memory that gets invoked when you plug something in that attaches to BIOS such as drives.

Couple of things to check:

1 - check if there's a firmware update for your main-board and apply if there is
2 - check the memory compatibility of slot1 as they sometimes vary

Worst case scenario is an irritating error message if slot1 won't accept memory. It's a common problem often only solved by replacing the main-board.
