Pastor Maldonado hit with grid penalty for hitting Sergio Perez | Monaco Grand Prix | Formula 1 news, live F1 | ESPN F1

Pastor Maldonado has been given a ten-place grid penalty for hitting Sergio Perez during FP3.

Perez had moved over to the inside of the track on the approach to Portier to allow Maldonado through when the Williams turned across and made contact with the front of the Sauber. The incident occurred long before the apex of the corner and the stewards have ruled that the Maldonado caused the collision.

Maldonado has previous history of a similar incident. He was penalised for driving into Lewis Hamilton at the end of qualifying in Belgium last year having been incensed at Hamilton barging his way past when on a flying lap.

The penalty will be applied at the end of the session, with Maldonado already struggling to get out in time for Q1 having crashed at Casino Square following the Perez incident.

Nico Hulkenberg was also investigated after Perez came close to colliding with the back of the Force India before the start of a new lap. No contact was made, but the stewards did rule that Hulkenberg impeded Perez and reprimanded him as a result.

only 10 places eh. so driving dangerously deserves less of a penalty than a mistake on fueling?? i think colour might have an impact on how penalties are determined. the stewards really need to sort their act out. if hammy had of done that they would have banned him from the race.

i dont think colour has anything to with it tbh rawsy .....

the rule book says you must get to the pits and give a fuel sample, and if you dont this is what the penalty will be this..

there isnt anything in the rule book that says if you drive purposely into anther car the penalty will be this, so its up to the stewards to give a penalty.

but i know what you mean tho... as it really does seem unfair that dangerous driving dont get a bigger penalty than not getting back to the pits to give a fuel sample :(

The rule book doesn't say you get put to the back of the grid for short fueling. And all of the comments about the short fueling on tv agreed it was too harsh
