Sony has announced it will launch a successor to its best-selling PlayStation Portable handheld system during a speech at the Leipzig Games Convention in Germany.

The PSP-3000 will feature an "advanced LCD screen supporting higher image quality" and will launch in Europe on October 15, complete with one software title, for €199 (£158).

Sony said the new PSP screen will allow for "crisper colours with more definition when outside in natural light".

A number of one-title bundles will become available with the PSP-3000, including a GO! communications package, and several games bundles such as FIFA 09, Harry Potter and Buzz: Master Quiz.

Since the launch of the Slim & Lite PlayStation Portable in September 2007, more than 13.4 million units have been sold in PAL territories.

So it only has a better screen or is the hardware upgraded aswell?

Hardly worth bothering with if it's only a screen upgrade.

it also comes with this..TA-088v3: These are the newest TA-088 boards that seem to be completely Pandora-proof.

How can they call it a PSP 2 when all they've done is improved the screen?

Surely it's an entirely new machine with faster CPU and better GFX etc?

...and hopefully 100% backward compatible.

yeah would be nice to have dual sticks too for FPS games. i wounder is they upgrade any of the hardware.
