Hello people, I have just recieved help from other members in the wireless section to make my home network more secure by blocking social networks and porn sites via a reccomendation to join "open dns".

My problem is I have bought my two oldest children Iphone 3g's and was wondering if there is anything out there like opendns for mobile phone communications, or does the iphone software have something that can help me to either block certain sites and services or just block the internet off all together.

I know the easy option would be not to get internet on the contract however we've signed up with network 3 and the contract has over a year to run yet. When we phoned 3 to try and cancel the inet they said they would charge me for it.... I told them to go f&^k themselves and that 5 of us in the house will be changing networks as soon as we can because I think all mobile operators should offer the cancelling of the inet in exchange for extra txt msg or calls as a bog standard clause in the contract.. seeing as there are so many kids being bullied and pressured by social networking and internet access in general it should be a parental right to be able to switch these sort of services off and on when ever a parent feels the need to. It is also a way a parent can use as a tool to persuade theyre children to behave and to work hard at school

However I could go on but if anyone knows a way to help me with my issue I would greatfully appreciate it. Meanwhile I am going to start a campaign for "Mobile Parents Against The Carriers. Unless someone else can think of a better name... :)

It's good to see a responsible parent and not demanding their kids protection be done by someone else :)

All I can think of you could try is to edit the mobile network settings on the phone to something wrong so the phone wouldn't be able to connect the net, then as far as wifi at home goes, monitor access and setup a restriction policy within the routers settings, sorry I can't be much more help.

Sent from my telephone.

Have a look at the iPhone Config Tool from Apple.

We used to use it at work (until moving to Profile Manager), basically, you can create a 'profile' to manage the device including restrictions. You can restict apps being installed, accessing wifi, all sorts. You can even 'sign' it (so only u can change it) and password it's removal.

My network, Orange have Protection on by default so some sites get blocked over 3G.
