I've just been looking for something I wrote in a trade magazine many years ago. Never found it but my eyes were drawn to an article on building your own pc to save money.
The article is dated 1994 and includes a shopping list with prices. Windows version was 3.11 and wasn't a standalone OS in those days. It merely acted as a GUI for MsDos. Oh the joys of reformatting using one floppy disk after another.
Note these prices don't include VAT @17.5%
EDIT.....Just noticed that although a power cable is listed the author failed to include a power supply
