iPhone Help with network unlock on Iphone 3g pls

chaps a mate of mine has given me his phone to unlock and i've been out of the loop for a while and not up to date with what's what

It's a 3g running 4.3.4 (8k2) and the modem firmware is 05.16.02.

Can I network unlock this and if so what prog do I use pls ?

p.s. can this also be unlocked if I upgrade to 4.3.5

hi mate dont update the fw to 4.3.5 , and have u got your shsh blobs saved on cydia for 4.1 to 4.3.3 ?
The method entails updating to the ipad baseband in redsn0w mate full how guide HERE ive done it lots of times mate but there are risks

as biffo says there are risks....updating to the ipad baseband can make you lose your GPS and you will only beable to do future updates using custom firmware.

Are you sure its a 3g?firmware on 3g only goes to 4.2.1,to unlock you need to update the baseband only do it if you really need it cause I have a 3gs with updated baseband and in fairness its like an itouch,drifts in and out of service when it feels like it no matter what network I use or what I try with it,I was tempted to just drop in water and pay the €200 for a replacement from apple.
