HDD urgent help required pls!

hi guys i have a serious problem. my hdd is 320gb and i was using it in a external enclosure and on the weekend my sister dropped it and since then i cant seem to access it in anyway it starts to spin and makes a ticking noise but then just stops after a few seconds. i have very important information on it but it is only used upto 40gb the rest is blank.i need this information off it very very urgently. pls can anybody help i would be very greatful. many thanks in advance.

Format it whilst in the cabby and check it for errors, if it's ok do a clean install.

The main thing is you an see the drive whilst it's in your caddy, I'd use a data recovery tool to try and capture what files I can.

ok mate cheers for that any suggestions on which tools and of course any links or programmes you can mail me. thanks in advance. also i can see the drive but when i click on it it freezes and dont open up at all.
