H E L P -- My machine keeps on locking up for a couple of seconds at a time

Please somebody out there help !!

I am using my machine and it keeps on locking up then releasing every couple of minutes for around 10 seconds each time.

It is very annoying ,,, i am unable to burn a cd/dvd or compile a movie etc ..

Could this be some sort of conflict on the motherboard between cards.

I'd boot into safe mode and run yr antivirus and spyware progs 1st, check if any probs ther 1st m8

Yeah, have done that in normal mode, will try it in safe mode see if there is any difference.

If spyware and virus cleans didn't work then try running task manager or process manager to see performance and memory usage, it may just be that your pc is doing way too much at a time. This can also be determined if it works fine in safe mode as a lot of programs will not run in safe mode thus freeing up resources. Which processes are hogging CPU and memory usage and is your performance graphs high or low in task manager?

I doubt its hardware, as if hardware causes an issue then more than likely you'll get a bluescreen, or a restart not just a 10sec hang.

Have you recently installed any new software onto the PC ?

Virus checkers and the like can often exhibit this kind of behaviour especially if you have programs like p2p or even email running in the background.

it could also be gtraphocs memory or even simple ram errors. For ram try memtest. Check the cpu temperature as well. (usually a healh status in bios)http://www.memtest86.com
