Going wrong with Elvis

On start up of mp6 the only highlited icons on the toolbar are Auto Detect-Add New Project.When i click on Auto detect,after scanning(no standard PIC smartcard found)appears.I am using goldcards.Have i gone wrong somwhere

check your com port settings make sure your com port is set to the elvis programmer
