...I was surprised to find that frozen and tinned could be better!

It can take up to two weeks for 'fresh' stuff to get to your basket and it's chilled all the way there.

But, frozen stuff is done in hours...

Erm, confused.com

as soon as most veggies are picked they start loosing there vitamins and goodness.

so if they are froozen or tinned they loose the goodness a lot slower.

Surprised me too...

...but then have you noticed how 'fresh' stuff goes off real fast???

Even the local farmers market is 'iffy' but not so much as the supermarkets.

I buy small quantities now or stick with frozen/tinned.

Crazy world...

if you are the kind of person to eat veggies you really should grow your own

and pick and prepare on the day you are going to eat them.......

hardly any goodness in what they call fresh these days....

If only I could - looking for an allotment...

...shouldn't everyone be hitting the veg?

I will warn you that an allotment is a lot of hard work

i used to run 2 allotements when i was about 18, as well as the usual veggies, salad stuff etc, i also used to grow mushrooms (not magic ones) and in the summer, make homebrew lager in the outside sheds, generally had 3 barrels running, 40 pints a barrel, in rotation, also had a few chickens

i used to give away most of what i grew, as there was too much of it, but i used to enjoy doing it and i do miss it

but yes, it is a lot of work

i would love to get my garden sorted to grow my own again, but, my garden is on different levels, and ive never got the time to get the retaining wall finished that i started 18 months ago, to make 2 tidy levels

That may be true, but I always still buy fresh, tastes so much better and I steam mine anyway, fine beans and carrots are superb with a bit of melted butter (not even peel the carrots just clean them up)
