Electricians - Counterfeit MCB's

I've recieved an email at work today warning me about counterfeit Merlin Gerin circuit breakers. The email was from a trusted source and I have no reason to believe that this is a wind up.

It has come to our attention that Counterfeit copies of our MCBs may be finding their way into the UK market.

We are currently trying to investigate this and identify who is importing them, placing onto the market and using them.

We believe most are Chinese copies but it is too early to establish.


The worrying part for me and i guess the HSE is what's inside.......or what's missing from inside.

I thought you might like to see what we found when we opened one up .

Its basically a switch ......no overload element (bi-metal) ...... no short circuit capability......no protection at all !
