DVD RW no longer reading copied CD's

Hi dont know if anyone can help. I have a DVD rom and a DVD RW. Both have always worked OK. However, all of sudden my DVD RW will not play/read CD's (both music or work files). It seems to be Ok with original music cd.

However, if i put in a blank cd (i.e. to burn music/save some files on to it), or one that i have previously burned or saved some fies on, the DVD RW doesnt even recognise a disk in the drive!

Strangely though it still plays any burned/copied DVD's???

Also all the disks work fine in the DVD Rom drive that I have!!!

Any help wouold be appreciated, this is driving me crazy......thanks

I had a pioneer that would burn to dvds but not cds,just came to the assumption it was a laser problem and replaced the drive.

This does happen when they go faulty, I agree with Dave24, just replace the drive.

Hiya, try upgrading the firmware on the drive, i had a philips dvd+_rw and this solved mine from not recognising blank media.

Nice one maty, mines a philips as well. Just updated latest firmware and it started working! Typical i had just bought a new drive to put in! Hope PC world take it back...
