anyone out there with a stb recieving mpeg 4 test transmissions in rep of ireland:Wave:

Rumor has it that RTE's plans for DVB-T have been put on the back burner for a while as Sky are belived to be in the process of droping RTE from there EPG like what happened in the UK with BBC, ITV & C4, its been reported that RTE could very well go Free to Air very shortly, this would save them a lot of money instead of the intended RTE International channel & the cost of rolling out DVB-T across Ireland due to there place on the Astra 2d satellite they could continue broadcasting in digital and HD in the future Free to Air on the FREESAT or Freesat Ireland platrorm, It will be very interesting to see what happens by Christmas.

Irish dvb-t has no affiliation to any satellite broadcast.
The official rollout is anounced for autumn 2009 and the standard will be mpeg4.
Beside that there is no chance for full Free to Air RTE via satellite. RTE got only the rights for Ireland for all the foreign films/shows and not for UK or the rest of europe. There are plans to create an own FTA channel via satellite for selfproduced material from RTE. Such a channel can only cover the irish parts where RTE is the rights holder.
