Can anyone tell me how to bypass, or change a password, when trying to connect via telnet, dreambox and or root are incorrect, tried talking to supplier to no avail, and is quite obvious he has changed it, any help as always much appreciated.

easiest way is to flash via null modem cable
what image are you using as some images have other passwords ?

- Install and run TuxBox Commander plugin

- Change directory to edit /var/etc/passwd (type 4: "Edit")

- Remove the encrypted password.
In the file /etc/passwd is the line:
root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/sh
or something as
root:EIfidfjeSAEFKEOlasdf5ewr3rWEW:0:0:root:/root:/bin/sh
The password field is the x or the encrypted string
EIfidfjeSAEFKEOlasdf5ewr3rWEW
Delete the x or the whole string. The line now is:
root::0:0:root:/root:/bin/sh

- Save the file and exit

- Telnet to your DB with root user without password

- Change/Create immediately a new root password with password
try this

make a backup image using DreamUP by pressing the "backup" button and then flash a new image to box. then simply extract/copy the files you need from out of the backup image over to your new image.
