CD & DVD copying dvd to cdr

my m8 has a dell pc with dvd and cd writer in the same drawer is it possible to record a dvd to cdr using the same drawer does this mean he will have to save the film to his hard drive so as to copy it to cdr,does he need any other software to do this? ......zooropa

If hes using the same unit then whatever he copies it has to go to HD first. I mean to say, he has to take the original disk out before inserting the blank, so wheres the movie then if its not on the HD.

so its not a dvd writer then? if its not he cant do a straight copy of a dvd. he would have to rip it and covert it............
