ive tried everything to use 37" xenius tv as monitor hdmi to watch movies using windows 8 , put setting to duplicate but just get no signal, even tried changing all tv settings any help appreciated

Driver issue maybe?

If it's legit blurays, or other protected content (e.g. Netflix), it'll be an HDCP issue.

If it's not auto-detecting the TV on plugging in the HDMI cable, you'll have to switch to external monitor mode using the [WinKey]+[P] toggle.

You have to tell the laptop to use an external display. There will be a hotkey to do this.

Have you tried the Windows key + P? You need to set it to projector only.

what graphic card is it? nvidia /intel/ amd? did you just tried via screen resolution menu or nvidia control panel/amd catalyst/intel menu?
