An innocent clubber came just inches from death after being stabbed in the neck at a city-centre night spot. The 25-year-old was standing near the entrance of the K2 club, on George Street, when a mob rushed at the door to try to get in. One of the men was carrying a knife and stabbed the victim in the neck, causing a deep wound. Detectives said he was lucky to be alive. He was taken to hospital for surgery and remains in a stable condition. His injuries are not life-threatening. The incident took place just before 2.20am on Saturday. Greater Manchester Police have yet to speak to the victim but have watched a CCTV tape of the attack, recovered from the club. They are now appealing for witnesses and are looking for a white man, in his late teens or early 20s, about 5ft 8 tall and wearing a white hooded top, blue jeans and white trainers. Det Con Ian Hatfield, said: “The victim has suffered a deep wound to his neck and is fortunate not to be fighting for his life in hospital. “We have yet to speak to him to find out what happened, but from viewing the CCTV it appears he was an innocent party who has been targeted for no reason whatsoever. “I would urge people to look closely at the CCTV and if you recognise the offender or anyone else in the group trying to force their way into the bar, please come forward.” Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 3540, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
