Hi all, I am wanting to chip a playstation 1 for the first time. I have to admit I know nothing on this subject, I've never even tried it before, I have an Elvis programmer, could someone please point me in the direction of any tutorials and also tell me where I can buy the chip from.

I'm also interested in knowing where I can download the games from and what software I need to write them to CD, I'm a complete novice at this so layman terms please.

Many thanks.

Hi cosmoss

I too chipped my first playstation about two months ago and its very easy to do. Firstly you need to find a diagrame for your model of playstation...look underneath the playstation and you will see a 4 digit number like 1009..

look here for chip diagrame model number

I didnt programme my chip I just bought it from here Mod chips
It already had the wires connected and was sheilded .I just solderd it onto the board following the diagrame instructions....be carful and dont slip

I did it in 5 mins easy....works fine!

I recommend going for the 12c509a chip instead of the 12c508 as used alot for the other PSX consols.

you can get the chips ready programed from electronic devices. PSone Supermode Mod Chip £2.00 each, you can also download the diagrams to show where to connect the wires.

you will need good eye-sight and a very steady hand.

you need to connect them with 8 wires and also a single wire between two points on the underneth of the board for the coulor correction. "easy m8" lol

when thats done you will be able to play your copyed (backups) games without the need for boot disk "no boot disk required.

it's realy is easy m8.

try this link for your chips and download diagrams.

http://www.electronic-devices-uk.ltd.uk/psmodchips.htm

Hope this helps m8.

how does the boot disc work? Do you need to use it before every change of game? Thinking of buying a ps1 as a xmas pressie.

the boot disk is on my site in diskjuggular format and nero format, yes you do have to swap every time you put a game in..hope it helped

hi gazzaman, you only need a bootdisc when your playing imported backup games ie! american, jap, you dont need one if your playing PAL backups[thats if your psx one is already chipped]. also if your into programing why not pay a visit to www.maxking.com and download the onechip hex, you wont have to mess about with a bootdisc then.

Original PS...

If your station has been chipped with the correct hex file then it does not matter if you are playing an import or original or own region backup. They will all boot.

The Smaller PS1...

This does require a boot disk on imports only although there is now a hex around that eliminates that need and allows all to boot without the need of a "Swap".

I haven't tested it yet - most stations I do are either originals or PS2, but I'm sure it works as I have seen it on many sites now and in some cases being sold. I will test in the next PS1 I get.
