I was watching watchdog tonight about rip off car insurance companies and low and behold my very own was on there (Swiftcover)
Now one of the suggestions on here was that when your renewal was up was to actually not renew, but join as a new customer to obtain a cheaper price. Low and behold when I tried I could save myself about £120 a year which I'm likely to be talking to them about tomorrow.
Anyway, it also got me onto something else which I'm not sure everyone is aware of.
Did you know that you can also reduce your premium by adding a second driver? A Partner, your Dad etc etc I only realised this when I tried to remove mine and the premium went UP by £280. Doing a little digging it's apparently common practice for insurance companies.
Some insurance companies also offer discounts when you add a spouse as a named driver as opposed to unmarried couples, they see marriage as a sign of stability and associate stability with safe driving and there for give you a discount.
You’ve nothing to lose and, if your car insurance quotes go up with the additional driver, you can easily remove them and get new quotes with minimum effort.
Oddly telling them I have a tracker fitted rather than the stock factory immobiliser made my premium go up by another £15.00, which is a little bit bemusing.
