broadband

The prices of broadband are pretty much regulated by Oftel m8 so there isn't really a difference in price between the different company's.

Cable broadband is priced at £25 per month, or if you have a BT line then it will cost £40.00 a month for ADSL no matter who you get it from.

There's no real difference in performance either, ADSL is probably a bit faster but not that you'd notice.

AOL charges £49.99 for Broadband - its slightly expensiver but they dont charge you £150 for installation. The support is pretty good too.

The speeds vary, the max I've ever got has been 478 Kbps with ADSL - which is better than BTOpenWorld. I was a trailist for the beta tests they did a few yrs back.

But in your area it could be much faster, it really does depend on the number of people in the exchange, using the same bandwidth. I dont think theres many ADSL subscribers in my area/exchange, hence the faster connection

broadband prices aren't regulated by oftel unfortunately! BT has control since it owns the exchanges. it has set a very high wholesale price.
I have had Tiscali ( the old world online) for about a year and bit now with no problems.. it is fast and consistent. d/l speeds up to 576Kb/s depending on source... price is £37.99 per month which is not too bad. i wouldn't touch aol or anything from them with a bargepole!
