Android Android box VPN problem

I have an android box MBOX KitKat 4.4 and it works great. The only problem is that when I try to install a VPN app, I can't use it as it says that my box doesn't suuport VPN and that I try using a different image. I have tried different VPN apps (TunnelBear, Hotspot Shield etc) but to no avail. I had an android tablet before, and I was able to use VPN on it, so this confuses me. Is there a way to solve this?
