In limbo!
Looking for a car for the wife she has her test soon and i want to get her a cheap but road worthy car for her first year of driving the lower the insurance bracket the better obviously, minimum of 5 seats.

Ideally would like 6 seats but theres very little hope of our budget stretching to that. Would also like 5 doors and preferably not a hatchback.

Vectra, astra, mondeo those sorts of car would be ideal.

Our budget is 5-700 pounds not allot i know but i just want a cheap run around for local driving untill she has got her first year out of the way.

Cheers guys

Oh and the closer to dn37 the better.

i know you may have tried it but keep an eye on auto trader and ebay.
Our mondeo blew a few years ago, logged onto auto trader, vectra estate £750 for a 2001 i think. Guy said he had just listed it and within 2 hour had 6 calls about it.

So keep your eye on there, a bargin comes up every now and then

why not goto your local sales you should find about a w reg high mileage ford are vauxhall for around £600

you wont find a tidy car for that price at any garage m8 goto sales are private it is the only option at a dealers the normally charge £600 for a w reg 1.0 dahiastu fridge with 90k lol

ask smirnoff rules he is pretty good at finding bargains hes warned me not to buy certain cars in the past I didnt take his advice and got my fingers burnt

he warned me about common faults on some motors and guess what the happened lol

Yeah that advert is questionable 1998 s reg yet the pic as pointed out by another member is of a v reg.

Maybe he is dislexic or could it be the wording.
I read it as a rover 414s, registered 1999 just a thought

Fooking Hell what a bargain. Where was that advertised? How much is the insurance on that car?

Been looking for a car for ages, been looking at Nissan Micra's for £500 - odd but insurance has been too high for me to be able to afford it.

From a m8 of my step dads, insurance for my wife is £643 fully comp with green insurance i used gocompare to get qoutes.

This is her first car too so no, no claims bonus or experience so imo it's a fairly reasonable qoute too.

Ill stick some picks up soon as i can.

You've got a bloody bargain there mate 5 ton for that jobs a goodun.

yeah thanks m8.

Im getting my step dad to check the timing belt for me coz i know they can be costly if they go. It's only had 2 owners and it's got service history and reciepts for jobs done etc.

Tyers are all good so hopefully it will be a good run around for a year or so then we weill sell it on and get a 6 or more seater.

Well done Sargie - sounds like a really good deal.

Sounds good m8
Good to get it checked over before you let your wife loose on it.

That's an absolute bargain and the insurance quote seems pretty good to me.

When I was getting quotes for myself on a Micra 1.1/1.2/1.3ltr, I was getting quotes of £2000 3rd party not even fire and theft.

Recently it has dropped slightly to £1500-£1700. Absolutely ridiculous!!!

Lol I suppose that makes a difference. I'm 20 mate. Would be my first car so no NCM etc.

The gap is absolutely ridiculous. I passed my test and I'm Fit to drive!!!

They shouldn't have passed me if I was a danger to fellow road users.

But aaah well - shit happens. :Cool2:

Ay, your telling me!!!

I understand that the age group from 17-25 or whatever is the most dangerous and statistics show that they are the most accident prone but it just seem unfair that all those within that age group should be penalised for somebody else's incompetence!

Looks like I'm not going to be driving anytime soon. Been looking for a job for some time and noting really come up yet. Fingers crossed I can get a job over the summer or something that I can do to earn some cash.

good luck to you m8 it's horrible the current employment situation ive been there and we were close to loosing the house when somthing finaly came up.

What i found was to take any shitty job then apply for others and you seem to get another job much more easily when you already work.

My wife has also done her pass plus too which may help the insurance we also have a garage etc.
