hi,

After much help from a few people on this forum and thanks to davidh, i finally got the chance to try the tomtom on route. The tomtom is working perfect as i tested it going to blackpool. Davidh is not online much, so i was hoping that someone can help me:-

1. Whilst coming back from blackpool at 8pm (NO TRAFFIC), I wanted to travel on motorways majority of the way, but the tomtom made me go through many B roads which is irritating and slows you down. Other than telling the tomtom to avoid part of the route, How else can i set the tomtom to avoid small roads or simply choose motorways as majority of the route?

2. The tomtom kept on setting off on "warning - Gatso ahead"..even though there was no camera ahead..how can i fix this?

3. I get crackling when using FM tranmissions to the radio..how can i fix this?

4. How do i update the camera database?

thanks again

1. Set your route preferences to "Fastest Route".
2. Check that you have your speed cams warnings set to Only warn if on route (Must say Ive had some problems with this)
3. Sorry I have never used this feature
4. Ok the TomTom Database is "available" in many places you need to use keygen to get it working, The other database (which most of us use) is a little more tricky but there are still updates flying around.

try changing the freq to 88.0, this works in most areas for me, but if not you will just have to try and find a clear channel

thanks diddy and coy. I always choose the "fastest route" option, but this still can add many B-ROADS and local streets. Surely there must be a way to force tomtom to select motorways, rather than B-Roads? I mean it gives you the option to avoid moterways, so where is the option to avoid B-Roads?

I can live with camera alerts, even if they are set off many times. I will try changing the frequency later.

thanks again

If you are getting sent down B roads i bet you have the IQ planning enabled, its on the routing options in preferences, disable it and then when you select fastest it will be the main roads, IQ takes into account the time of day and historical traffic black spots

thanks for that info cov mate. It seems that you were right and since i've disabled that option, I get motorways majority of the time.thanks!

A bt embaarassing to ask, but can you please tell me where the option is for telling tomtom to detect cameras onlly-on-route???

yes m8, tap screen
go to preference
press next screen arrow
select manage poi's
go to edit poi's
select camera
remove poi NO
click through options until it say warn only if on route, unselect tick in box and you will get camera warnings when not on route, or select it to ONLY get warnings on route:banana:

ok, but my poi does not come up as the word "camera", but its a big list of "gatso" or "mobile cameras"

i meant select 'the' camera, or in your case 'the' gatso etc and follow the procedure. from what you say are you using the tomtom cameras?

i'm not too sure what i'm using mate as davidh helped me add them. All i know is that i have a big list of gatso cameras with different speeds and also "mobile" cameras too.

ok all you need to remember is all poi's are added to the map folder, so I would make a backup using windows explorer of your current tomtom files.
then delete cam files
then download the cam files from the other post on here 'free cams for tomtom', these are more recent
extract them and copy to your map folder on the tomtom
go to my first post about activating them and follow instructions, dead simple and easy.
