A box for your Elvis

If anyone is interested this is how I recently housed my Elvis to protect it from harm;

I bought a black project box from Maplin that is just a bit wider than the Elvis and a fair bit longer.

Then, I glued the four rubber feet to the 'lid' of the box using normal superglue (carefully).

Next, I place the box back over the Elvis and marked a couple of notches on one side for the serial socket. Then I got a small hacksaw blade to make a nice neat hole for the socket to poke through (checking for placement as I went). Repeated the same process on the other side towards the back to get the power cable through (if you use an adapter).

Finally the trickiest part - the slot! To do this I put a card into the Elvis, and swivelled the box next to the corner of the lid to find out where the card slot should be. This took a few trial and error type marks with the hacksaw blade, but eventually I got it. Then using a gas hob and a large screwdriver (but a soldering iron would probably have worked too) I melted the slot through the plastic, giving a little extra either sides and top and bottom (but not too much).

To finish it off, all you need to do is screw the lid to the box and that's it. Total cost 2.50 ish and total time about 30 minutes.

sound interesting but what happens if u want to program a chip on board or cant u do this with elvis programmer

i got build5 prog so dont know much about elvis

anyway its still good to protect the programmers from daily life.

My solution is even easier

get out a box of floppy disks you have hanging around, chuck out all he disks (who uses floppy's nowadays) and place your ELVIS progger in. Close list.

added security - who's gonna look at a disk of floppys on a shelf?

Yeah a bit like blue peter - though I never remember Janet Ellis melting the f%^k out of a plastic box with a screwdriver - lol

Anywho, I will see if I can get some pics up somewhere and you can see what it looks like - it is square a black, so not that interesting.

I don't prog chips just cards, so that doesn't bother me, but you are right that the lid would have to come off each time.

Nice 1 just

yeah get some pictures up if you can we would all like to see what your blue peter badge is made of

I used the plastic floppy disk box as well and I lined the inside of the box with bubble wrap stuck on with double sided tape.(stops it from rattling around)

Hmmm...Nice ideas , when I get a bit time I might put mine in a box and maybe put a ZIF socket on for chips and a SIM socket from an old phone
