HI

Did my first ever Hitachi 79 drive at the weekend, Thanks for links Oggy. Used slax, 79 unlock audio and then toolbox. All went simple and worked 1st time

Got one tonight and trying exactly the same thing and its just not having it!

Can get it into mode B, no problems, loads up in windows and I play the audio CD as guide says

But when I use the 79unlock batch file, 1st time I run it I get this message

"failed to execute 0x00000005 <sense: 24/00/7C9101BB>
Done!"

But cant read from drive in toolbox!

If I run it a 2nd time I get just the expected "Done!" But after about 5 secs my computer locks up and I cant do a thing??

Any help guys??

My usual response to a v79 post:

Can you list full steps taken, detailed as much as possible.

shadows what chipset are you running is it via 6421? cos the freezing of pc symptoms of incompatible sata chipset , you may have flashed a hitachi before with that chipset , I had flashed 2 x 47d and a 59 d with my via 6421 card and went to connect to a previously flashed hitachi one of the 47 s by myself it wouldnt entertain it ,pc freezing etc, but had connected ok previously, so as a long shot connected to my on board sata no idea what chipset it is , its a dell dimension 3100 and guess what it it connected no problems . I guess them hitachi drives are just tempermental with the via 6421 chipset.

Oggy mate

Using the following

Onboard Sata VIA VT6308P (worked for Hitachis so far?) Only done 3 mind! lol
Conectivity kit to power drive

Use slax cd to get into mode B , Works 1st time everytime
Boot up windows, drive shows up as E drive
Play 79 audio disk for 3 secs then reply and pause
Go into Dos, Cd to correct path and run 79Unlock E
1st time I run it I get this " "failed to execute 0x00000005 <sense: 24/00/7C9101BB>
Done!"

Put in a DVD and try using toolbox, unable to read from drive

Try The audio bit again get same message above - If I then run it again straight away I get just the expected "Done!" But within about 15 secs the whole pc freezes up!

Any ideas?

You must use the 360/CK to eject the dvd drive after play/pause but before 79unlock.

This is essential to leep code in RAM.

Also, stick to 4.6, 4.8 was having issues for someone at 3am this morning.

[02:50] <@Podger> 559 the error was most likely coz you didn't eject the audio cd.....
[02:51] <@Podger> you need to do this before the 79Unlock will work
[02:51] <@Podger> You can't use any windows method to do this as the OS will clear the ram on the 79 if you do

[03:06] <Guest559> runtime error 53 file not found
[03:07] <@Podger> no idea.... never use FWTB, it's a piece of shit

Oh, dont expect a done message, drive will also unlock with failed to execute message returned.

Yep first time i tried it forgot to eject after playing the tune.

Ran 79Unlock and my computer would lock up everytime.

Imagine our frustration when Podger didnt even tell us to do it until 45 mins in :)

Everyone forgets to mention that bit, whether they are telling someone how to do it, telling someone how they done it etc....

LEGENDS the whole dam lot of you!!

Sorted it at Lunch! Spent all night on that f**ker!!! lol

Was as simple as not removing audio Cd before running unlock!!

Thanks again guys!!
