A PUBLICAN who was caught allowing 'nuns' to drink on his premises after hours twice on the same night after a charity event has been fined €700.

Listowel publican Christy Walsh was fined €500 for a second after-hours offence when 30 people dressed as nuns were found on his premises.

He had been fined €200 for the same offence at Listowel District Court the previous week when 21 'nuns' were found drinking at the Well Bar in the Co Kerry town.

His solicitor Maurice O'Sullivan last week told Judge Angela Ni Chonduin that he could plead his client could not refuse nuns but did not know if that would get him anywhere.

The offences occurred last July 1 after the town had tried to get into the Guinness Book of Records for having the greatest number of people dressed as nuns in one place.

Mr Walsh was on the committee of Nunday in which 1,436 men, women and children dressed as nuns set a new record and raised thousands of euro for Pieta House, the suicide prevention charity.

He told the Irish Independent: "I'm disappointed with the fine, but it won't stop me from doing charity work again." Mr Walsh said those found on the premises had been waiting for taxis.

A policeman said it was like a scene from Happy Feet. (ok i made that bit up )

Caught twice in a week, looks like the landlord was making a habit of it
